About Us

The QANB was formed in 1989 with the Nubian breeders, who belonged to the Jimboomba and District Goat Club. The object of the QANB was to cater for the goat keeping interests of the local Nubian breeders and especially for those breeders in country Queensland, who were isolated by distance and who experienced difficulty in having contact with other Nubian breeders. The group has now changed it's name to "GoatsNow!!" reflecting the current relevance of goats in the 21st century.
At the time, the emphasis was upon the Nubian as a show animal and within a remarkably brief time the QANB had members in every state. A newsletter was commenced and this has persisted and grown into a publication of which are justly proud. Yearly on - ground shows were held for local breeders and to involve breeders scattered across the country, a photo show was instituted 6 years ago.

With the dramatic change that has taken place within the goat meat industry and because of the fact that many producers are using the Nubian in their goat meat production enterprise, the emphasis on the QANB altered from showing to growing.

When the chairman began to operate as the SE Queensland co-ordinator for Ausgoat Co - Australian Goat Meat Producers Co-operative, it was felt to be expeditious for the QANB to be more closely aligned with Ausgoat Co. Therefore, in the area near home base a "partnership" operates.

The QANB became incorporated. Meetings of members, with a fully operational executive, are held every 6 weeks in the homes of the breeders and a warm friendship exists between the members. The AGM is held in late October at the property of the Chairman.

Small local outlets have been sourced for the limited number of stock that has been available for slaughter. However, with the increase of numbers, soon a consignment of animals to the co-operative will be arranged.
